*Radon tests are normally done in areas suitable for occupancy. For example, a split-level house/building with a basement, a slab-on-grade room and a room over crawlspace will have tests placed in each of the three foundation types areas, using the guidelines below.

Tests should be set in rooms that are regularly occupied, such as family rooms, living rooms, playrooms, bedrooms and basements.
Tests should not be set in areas of high humidity, such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, or spa rooms.
Radon tests should be undisturbed during the testing period.
Radon tests should be at least 3 feet from doors, windows to the outside or ventilation ducts.
Radon tests should be out of the direct flow of air from the ventilation duct.
Radon tests should be at least 1 foot from exterior walls.
Radon gas tests should be 20 inches to 6 feet from the floor.
Radon tests will be at least 4 inches away from other objects horizontally or vertically above the test.
All radon tests should be placed at least 4 feet from heat, fireplaces and furnaces.
Tests should be out of direct sunlight to test for radon.
Radon tests should be at least 10 feet from unsealed sump pits.
